Abstract: This article aims to discuss the conventional manual washing red cell (WRC) heavy dependency on centrifugal methods and extrusion techniques, and successful development of preparation device for WRC with proprietary intellectual property rights. The machine is semiautomatic, and the whole washing process is carried on in a fully closed environment to avoid cross infections. The clinical tests made on the erythrocyte products with preparation device show that the erythrocyte recovery ratio could reach 90%, and the removal ratios of leucocytes and plasma exceed 99%. Besides, compared with the manual washing method, the preparation device for WRC takes 20 min less to make 400 ml of erythrocyte of the same quality.
