Abstract: In this paper, presented to the |Licensing in Europe| Conference, 23-24 June 1988, London, the author challenges the isolationist attitude which he regards as endemic in Switzerland. The recent history of trading relations between Switzerland and the EC is examined, with particular reference to the Free Trade Agreement of 1972. EEC competition law has particular implications for licence agreements between Switzerland and EC member states, especially in the field of patent licences.

Keywords: EEC competition law; Swiss law; licence agreements; patent licence agreements; Switzerland; licensing; European Community; Free Trade Agreement; patents.
