Abstract: Multi-faceted technologies are those that present a variety of potential upstream processes and downstream applications or end-products for commercialization. If these options are systematically assessed, they can expand considerably the value an inventor can expect to gain from his or her efforts. This paper details the factors contributing to successful commercialization, using real case studies. These factors include the ability to achieve some measure of control over the use of technology shared with partners.

Keywords: multi-faceted technologies; commercialising technology; technology partnerships; partitioning technologies; Sbarro|s wheel; Belland AG; AMGEN; NIPCO roller process; technology management; technology commercialisation.
