Abstract: Of the world|s 5 billion plus population, 80% live in intermediate or low-income countries. Is it possible for these countries to become technologically self-sufficient, and eventually to become technology donors? The answer, says the author, is technology transfer based on the development of true value-added processes. Appropriately applied, such processes become vehicles for the technological and industrial transformation or entire economies. Indonesia is taken as a case in point.

Keywords: developing countries; technology transfer; Indonesia; value-added processes; technologically self-sufficient.
