Abstract: This paper identifies three current streams of research on R&D cooperation among industry, universities and government laboratories: (1) studies of the interaction, structure and processes; (2) studies of selected dimensions; and (3) studies of selected cases. We propose a comprehensive research agenda which includes the development of theories of cooperative R&D, and empirical studies of the impacts of such cooperation on the business performance and economic competitiveness of industrial companies. Methodological problems are discussed and some solutions are offered. The paper contains a bibliography of studies in the field of university-industry government cooperation.
