Title: Information and telecommunication technologies in the 1990s: trends and managerial challenges

Abstract: This paper offers a comprehensive review of the predicted trends of information and telecommunication technology in the 1990s. The emerging new business environment is then discussed, followed by implications for US managers. Four main trends are identified: miniaturization, higher efficiency, and lower costs; globalization; strategic alliances: and the four S|s: Software, Simplicity, Services, and Systems. Some challenges and opportunities for US companies are identified, and potential managerial approaches are suggested.
