Abstract: The evolution of a Total Quality Culture within an organisation will include the development of tightly coupled relationships with suppliers. The use of EDI for ordering and delivery communication has grown quickly and fairly naturally in these relationships. However, payment by EDI, for which the supplier is the main beneficiary, is being forgotten. This paper demonstrates the importance of good payment practice and illustrates how this can be achieved more effectively with the support of EDI than by any other means.

Keywords: electronic data interchange; EDI payments; quality trade cycle; total quality culture.
