Abstract: In this paper, the basic results of a research that focused on identifying and modelling innovative employees in organisations are presented. By using triangulation of three different sources, a definition of innovation competency with the corresponding underlying characteristics is proposed. The main outcome of the research is a survey questionnaire that organisations can apply in order to identify the innovation competency of their employees. The questionnaire is finally tested in a focus group in order to obtain practical implications.
