Abstract: Environmental conservation is a focus of German development policy and thus also a focus of cooperation with the People|s Republic of China. Development that is environmentally sound and makes careful use of natural resources is not only important for the people of China, in terms of preserving the source of their livelihood and helping to improve their living conditions. It is also, given the scale involved, of global relevance. This paper provides comprehensive information on the background to the environment issue, possible solutions to the problems, and suggestions on the financing of environmental technology.

Keywords: afforestation; China; cooperative projects; water resources management.
