Abstract: This paper introduces the calculation method applied at MAGNA STEYR to describe road-excited vibrations. Successful application of such a calculation method in a development process depends on the criteria |result quality| and |result availability|. For that reason, utmost attention is paid to these criteria during cross-function modelling of the complete-vehicle. Cross-function modelling allows one and the same model to be used for calculation of vehicle handling, operational loads and vibration comfort. The quality of modelling and model parameterisation is verified and confirmed by means of a hierarchical process for model validation. Finally, the quality of this calculation method is illustrated by means of a calculation based on the development-relevant question ||effects of run-flat tyres on the operational loads and the vibration comfort||.
