Abstract: As markets become competitive and influenced by a number of factors, companies endeavour to design a competitive strategy that will enable them to remain competitive and ensure customer satisfaction. In this endeavour, it is being increasingly realised that building a good network in supply chain is important for any firm, which is geared towards providing customer satisfaction and thus maintaining a competitive advantage. Admittedly, an optimal supply chain network plan needs to go hand-in-hand with true performance management system for the managers. That way, the two issues are tied together. This paper interweaves the context of industry needs of supply chain planning with a generic model of supply chain networks. It shows that management control systems designed into supply chain networks can lead to improvements in supply chain decisions.
