Abstract: This work results from the research carried out at Volkswagen, a car engine industry located in Sao Carlos – Brazil. By analysing the major restructuring actions of the automobile industry in the last decade, it aims at demonstrating the influence of these actions on the establishment a new professional profile. This profile was later reviewed and modified as a result of a high turnover rate that prevailed in the industry|s first few years and also due to organisational structure inertia, which led to fewer opportunities. Concerning the adequacy of the profile for the different phases of the organisational structure, a retrogression of the required qualifications can be noted.
