Abstract: The US National Cancer Institute (NCI), part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), is developing an international grid infrastructure for exchange of biomedical information, known as caBIG. This open source infrastructure group is currently developing several major components and is actively seeking participation from the international biomedical informatics community. The components may be used on the grid for multi-investigator information exchange or may be downloaded and customised for use within an institution as stand-alone software. This paper explains the project and discusses the software features that could be provided for biomedical investigators.
