Abstract: This study investigates the technological parameters of the macrozonal hardening of complex shape castings manufactured by permanent mould casting and infiltration of ceramic fibre reinforcing cages with aluminium melt. The CCM with a matrix made of aluminium alloys was produced by the method that is most adaptable to streamlined production, i.e. infiltration under external pressure. The following factors are of importance: capillary phenomena, the character of the melt flow inside the porous cage, the interaction between the reinforcing fibre and matrix, and the hardening process of the matrix alloy.

Keywords: aluminium alloys; macrozonal hardening.
