Abstract: The relationship between the Cultural Heritage domain and new technologies has always been complex, dialectical and often inspired by the human desire to induce these spaces not created for that purpose, to pursue technological trends and eventually offering to the end-users devices and innovative technologies that could become a 'dead weight' during their cultural experiences. However, by means of technological applications, mobile services and intelligent sensor boards it is possible to bridge the gap between cultural spaces and visitor engagement. In this paper we present the design and the implementation of an intelligent art exhibition with talking objects, named The Beauty or the Truth, located within the Monumental complex of San Domenico Maggiore, Naples (Italy). A novel metaphor of talking artworks, enabled by IoT technological tools and applications is presented and discussed. The exposed sculptures will be able to automatically propose themselves to the visitors, telling stories and showing multimedia content.
