Abstract: This study focuses on creating a structure to systematically extract character appearance components from a narrative in a game or animation. To achieve this, the methods for organising the character background information structure are developed through analysing studies of character-driven stories such as films, dramas, and games. Then, a character design implementation case study was conducted by applying these methods to organise character background information and extract the characters' appearance components. The results demonstrate that specific parts of the character background information structure can be converted into specific character appearance components. Through analyses of the results, the structure and process for extracting a character's appearance components from a narrative is proposed.
