Abstract: A mathematical simulation model based on the mass and the energy balances as well as the second law, a thermodynamic analysis and a multi-parametric optimisation of an ammonia-water double effect absorption chiller are performed. Exergy analysis is performed to show how the double effect technique allows the reduction of the total exergy loss in the single effect machine and enhances its performances. The search of the optimal operating conditions corresponding to the global maximum of the COP is performed by a numerical simulation of two multi-parametric techniques: the experimental designs and the simplex methods. The two methods converge towards the same maximum.
