Abstract: In an increasingly changing environment, innovation is recognised as one of the main sources of sustainable competitive advantage. Innovation is able to improve company products and processes and this progress allows companies to survive and be more efficient, in other words to be more profitable that non-innovators. In this way, the aim of the paper is to investigate, through a literature analysis, the connection between innovation and company performance by referring to a whole range of sectors such as entertainment, culture, sports and IT in order to highlight that private equity investments are associated with a consequent increase in innovation. The method used for the research is based on a qualitative approach. International literature on the topic is examined in order to define the role of private equity in the increase of company innovation. The findings of the paper emphasise how innovation, private equity, social and environmental factors are increasingly connected to the business systems that decide to invest in product and process innovation.
