Abstract: Mathematical modelling is essential to investigate the performance of proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC). In this paper, a system-level dynamic model of PEMFC is developed using the semi-empirical equations. The proposed model is implemented in MATLAB/SIMULINK software to simulate the dynamic characteristics of PEMFC. The dynamic response characteristics of PEMFC are conducted and analysed under multiple layers of step change in the fuel cell loads, which is defined as the input source. The research we have done suggests that is useful to improve the design and performance of PEMFC.
