Abstract: Surface microstructures including pits, gibbosity, groove and ridge were designed. Finite element analysis was used to study the lubricating effect of thrust bearing with different surface microstructures. And bearing capacities under different bearing clearance, angular velocity and liquid film viscosity were analysed. The results indicated that all bearings with surface microstructures could generate bearing capacity, and the bearing capacity was different under same working condition for bearing with different surface microstructures. At the same time, bearing capacity changed regularly with working conditions changing.
