International Journal of Technology, Policy and Management (IJTPM), Vol. 5, No. 2, 2005

Abstract: The wireless industry is under pressure to replace decreases in revenue from voice services. It is expected that such revenue will originate from data services. The South African wireless market already offers various forms of mobile data services. This paper examines the expansion of mobile data services in South Africa by exploring the evolving wireless value chain and finds that as such services become more innovative and numerous, the wireless value chain becomes more complex. An understanding of the intricacies of the extended wireless value chain will allow companies to identify and exploit opportunities in the market.
