Abstract: Ranking of fuzzy numbers is very important in decision making problems. Fuzzy number comparison is required in decision analysis and fuzzy environment. This paper presents a new method for fuzzy numbers ranking based on the area, called 'dual areas'. In this method, two areas are calculated for each fuzzy number and the sum of these two areas used for ranking. Using this method is very simple and has been calculated easily for both triangular and trapezoidal fuzzy numbers and also use to rank normal and non-normal numbers. At last, in order to evaluate the performance of the proposed method, some comparisons are presented with other articles. For this purpose we use different examples, which are mentioned in other articles. The results indicate that the proposed method, gives the appropriate responses for different fuzzy numbers.
