Abstract: With environmental dynamism, organisational competitiveness is hinged on superior fit with the environment. The objective is to explore how middle managers contribute to strategic decisions and to measure/compare the degree of influence of different roles on strategic and financial performance in public and private sector organisations. The role of an entrepreneur emerged strong with respect to influence on performance, hinting at the entrepreneurial mindset that needs to be leveraged. The study fills a gap in literature by exploring and comparing the role of middle managers in Indian public and private sector organisations and also measuring the influence of different roles on performance.
