Abstract: The new economy is marked by rapid globalisation and tough challenges. It not only offers threats but also provides certain opportunities. In order to have a sustainable business, organisations are taking initiatives to adopt new ways of working. The same holds true for educational institutes. There is a need for educational institutes to discard old ways of learning practices and adopt action-learning techniques to foster continuous learning. The aim of this paper is to formulate the items for organisational level antecedents of learning organisation and test them in Indian higher educational institutes to know if they are following these practices. With an extant literature review and expert opinion, an exploratory study has been done, using 300 responses from faculty members in 19 higher educational institutes. The final result obtained is an extraction of six factors of 54 items grouped into total quality management and supportive learning culture.
