Abstract: The present work describes the effect of Sb addition on the optical properties of As40Se60 chalcogenide thin film. The addition of Sb (7%) results (As40Se53Sb7) chalcogenide with no structural change. Both As40Se60 and As40Se53Sb7 films have amorphous nature though we have added Sb semi-metal. Non-direct electronic transition was found to be responsible for the photon absorption inside the investigated films with Sb incorporation in place of Se. It was found that, the optical band gap Eg decreases while the width of localised states (Urbach energy) Ec increases. The XPS core level spectra changes with the addition of Sb clearly interpret the optical properties change due to Sb addition.
