Abstract: A method is described for the simulation and optimization of assembly processes involving flexible parts. The method, which can be applied to a wide range of assembly problems, combines traditional elastostatic structural analysis with techniques used to evaluate statistics of system with stochastic parameters. Results from an illustrative sample problem demonstrate the potential of this method in controlling the dimensional variation of the finished product.
