Abstract: Research in scheduling area has been concentrated around objectives which aim to optimise resource utilisation and delivery performance of job orders. No research has been done applying value stream management principles while scheduling flowshop. Hence, using value stream management principles, a new objective function for the flowshop scheduling problem is developed. As scheduling function is an integral part of supply chain, the proposed objective aims to minimise the sum of variety of opportunity losses for improving supply chain performance. To solve this problem, a heuristic and a hybrid genetic algorithm are proposed and computational results presented.
