Abstract: In today's global economy Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is often regarded as a strategic tool for achieving success and competitiveness in organisations. In recent times, ICT has had significant impact on the way organisations operate, as it offers tremendous opportunities such as storing, processing, retrieving, disseminating and sharing of information. Organisations, including Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), are constantly searching for new ways of creating and delivering value to customers. In Nigeria, SMEs play a vital role in the economy and substantially contribute to the country's industrial development. Nevertheless, despite the increasing potential of technology in all aspect of lives, there seems to be a number of issues that limit Nigerian SMEs from adopting ICT. This paper presents findings of a research project that is mainly qualitative in nature but also includes simple statistical analysis of data obtained from a survey which concentrates mainly on the reasons for the non-adoption of ICT in a number of SMEs in Nigeria.
