Abstract: It is a consensus that ubiquitous/pervasive computing paradigm will be a mainstream in the future of computing devices. Based on the extended von Neumann architecture, transparent computing is one of the most promising means of realising ubiquitous/pervasive computing. Transparent mobile service terminal (TMST), being a handheld mobile device powered by transparent computing system, is a natural fit for the client terminal of the transparent computing system. TMST uses transparent network OS (TNOS) as the core of its system, thus enjoys numerous benefits such as service-oriented, light-loaded, rich functionality, high security, improved manageability, high efficiency and enhanced user experience. In this paper, a conceptual description of the innovative technologies behind the TMST is presented.
