International Journal of Innovation and Learning (IJIL), Vol. 1, No. 3, 2004

Abstract: Advancement of information technology, saturation of domestic markets and the shifting balance of power have ushered in great business opportunities and even greater turmoil. It has become imperative for businesses to devise strategies that can hold muster in the present business context. Based on the learning from organisations the world over, the paper details one strategy each to address the four vital dimensions of corporate strategy – core businesses, resources, organisation, and customers – to build a sustainable competitive edge. The winners will be the ones who mesh all these strategies following the fundamental principles of starting with the right goal, delivering a value proposition, having a distinctive value chain, enabling trade-offs, ensuring fit of individual elements and continuity of direction.
