Investigating the web-based courses of newly established universities

Abstract: This study took a questionnaire survey on the status of web-based course construction in four newly-established universities in the Shandong province. The result shows that the construction of web-based courses had made certain achievements. However, there were still some problems, such as low rate access to the websites, no timely update of instructional contents, and inadequate teaching resources. In order to solve the problems, future development of web-based courses should focus on sustainability, transformation from course construction to course utilisation, construction of multimedia resources, and building an efficient and practical online teaching platform.
