Abstract: Software quality is becoming increasingly important since software is now used in many demanding applications and also in safety critical systems. Reliable functioning of software systems is paramount concern to millions of users who depend on it every day. Unfortunately most of the systems still fall short of user expectation of reliability. Component-based software development is a new approach based on the idea that software systems can be developed by selecting appropriate off-the-shelf components and then assembling them with well-defined software architecture. In this paper, it is proposed to apply the software quality function deployment technique in a systematic manner to manage the software development process to improve the quality of the component based software by improving its reliability. This approach is applied in ERP software and the results show that software quality function deployment is best suitable for improving the quality of component based software development.
