Outlines of a multicommodity and multilateral integrated cooperation agreement for sustainable management of natural resources
by Giancarlo Barbiroli
International Journal of Sustainable Development (IJSD), Vol. 13, No. 3, 2010

Abstract: In this work, by resuming and developing researches carried out in the 70s and 80s, a potential solution is outlined, where the complex issues of natural resources limitedness, the environmental imbalances and the economic and social imbalances among industrialised and non-industrialised countries are put at the first place of the international community's choices, able to deeply modify the paradigms of development and to help pursuing sustainability. After having analysed the main weakness points of the present world economic and political situation, aims, structure and effective policy instruments and measures are here proposed and discussed, within a new multicommodity and multilateral integrated cooperation agreement. Although revolutionary and hard to arrange and implement, it might be an appropriate solution to set a new international order and labour division, also capable to reduce the economic and social imbalances among and within countries, and to give a safer perspective to the world community.
