International Journal of Internet Manufacturing and Services (IJIMS), Vol. 2, No. 2, 2010

Abstract: To support the development of an industrial product service system of a machine tool (mt-iPSS), machining capabilities of the mt-iPSS should be clarified and modelled. This paper clarifies machining capabilities from two aspects of functions and performances, and then constructs a mathematical model for quantifying the machining capabilities. In the model, machining time, cost and quality are comprehensively taken into consideration. Based on the model, the factors which have influences on machining capabilities are analysed, and the methods for enhancing machining capabilities are explored. Finally, a prototype for enhancing machining capabilities is developed.
