Sports gambling in the USA: why PASPA should be repealed and sports gambling should be legalised

Abstract: In 1992, the USA passed the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA), making sports gambling illegal in all but four states. These four states get the benefit of generating revenue by way of legalised sports gambling. The other 46 states are prohibited from legalising gambling, effectively limiting their options to raise revenue. In this paper, I propose that the PASPA should be repealed to allow sports gambling in all 50 states. The benefits each state will receive from legalised sports gambling outweigh the proposed 'negative factors' associated with sports gambling.
