Technical role in competition analysis. Part 2: Examples of competition analysis
by Alan Glasser
International Journal of Technology Management (IJTM), Vol. 1, No. 3/4, 1986

Abstract: In Part 1 of this paper a general overview of the extent, methodology and potential impact of the engineering approach to competition analysis was presented. It was shown that three fundamental concepts must be mastered to perform the kind of analytical work needed: (i) technical root structure, (ii) criticality, and (iii) natural limits. In this second part of the paper these concepts of competition analysis are further illustrated and clarified by explicit examples. Part 3 of this paper presents a case study to illustrate how the engineering analysis is used in conjunction with marketing projections.
