The design of competitive manufacturing systems
by John Parnaby
International Journal of Technology Management (IJTM), Vol. 1, No. 3/4, 1986

Abstract: The design of competitive, complex, modern manufacturing systems requires the consistent professional application of systems engineering skills of the highest order and requires changes from traditional organizational approaches to support the process. In the systems engineering approach attention must be paid to all factors, whether human, organizational or technical. A structured and methodical approach to systems engineering is essential to success, and a new breed of systems engineer and manager is needed who can understand and apply the approach in practice. (Based on a paper presented to the 4th International Conference on Systems Engineering, Lanchester Polytechnic, Coventry, UK, 10-12 September 1985.)
