Evaluation of road load classification for fatigue assessments

International Journal of Vehicle Design (IJVD), Vol. 47, No. 1/2/3/4, 2008

Abstract: A way of modelling customer usage for fatigue life considerations is discussed. Based on a parametric vehicle independent load model, parameters are estimated using measurement data. The variation of the parameters over the measurements is studied using analysis of variance. A general road classification is considered, which is compared to the effect of more local factors such as market and driver. Considerations in the design of experiments to gather data for the models are addressed. A case study with a vehicle independent description for lateral loads is presented. The analysis technique is applied using data from a field study.
