Building new product development capabilities

International Journal of Vehicle Design (IJVD), Vol. 21, No. 1, 1999

Abstract: Constant attention must be paid to the building and adaptation of capabilities in new product development processes for companies to be innovative. These capabilities relate to a wide range of organisational processes and relationships. The innovative process is particularly sensitive to the need for continuous evolution and improvement. It is therefore necessary to highlight these new capabilities that emerge in the leading companies as well as their building and implementation processes. Of particular importance are the capabilities to increase performance, especially lead time reduction, and those which make the resources used and the product development process more flexible. Lastly, knowledge creation and management capabilities contribute to an increased innovative activity.
