Sustainable urban regeneration and floor plans of housing

Abstract: Urban regeneration and custom-tailored housing are seen as belonging to the core tasks for the upcoming decade. During the last decade, regeneration has become a method of spatial intervention aimed at the settlement of lasting solutions. This paper proposes a new approach to regeneration by relating it to sustainability. The analyses are focused on the quality of the layout of the dwellings that were realised during the urban regeneration in Rotterdam. It concerns the question to what extent floor plans designed in this period meet the present need, and what this mean in regard to the design of sustainable floor plans.
