Abstract: With advancement of automation in hospitals each health care service provider maintains the medical records in electronic format, popularly known as electronic health records (EHR). Development of an interoperable environment allows EHRs to be shared, which undoubtedly enhances the availability of data, but also raise security concerns. For secured access of EHR, hospital needs such an access control model that gives access only to the authorised person. Selection of a suitable access control mechanism for secure and seamless sharing of EHRs is critical. Thorough study of relevant criteria that influence the security of EHRs in an interoperable healthcare environment is essential. This paper adopts fuzzy TOPSIS, a multi criteria decision making (MCDM) approach, to select the most suitable access control model for secured sharing of EHR. Opinions gathered from IT experts working in various hospitals were analysed using fuzzy TOPSIS. Analysis claims attribute-based access control model to be most suitable model.
