Abstract: This paper describes an approach developed by the Russian New University to formation of laboratory practicum for natural sciences taught during training of nanotechnology specialists. The paper presents the results of a comparative analysis of the effectiveness of laboratory workshops of different types. On its basis, recommendations on use of simulators of different types are given. A description is given of a simulator that is designed to provide students with research skills using IR Fourier spectroscopy. Using the simulator, students gain practical skills in performing all technological operations. These include: sample preparation, equipment setup and selection of research modes, research and analysis of the results.
