Value-add and portfolio construction are two strategic levers that investors can use to differentiate themselves in an increasingly competitive environment. This paper adopts a case study approach and interviews ten prominent European investors from Western Europe. Its findings are that: 1) value-add is a main preoccupation of VCs where human capital, interpersonal relationships, and monitoring matter; 2) portfolio construction varies and is influenced by considerations of diversification, syndication and exits. This paper contributes to the literature by providing a synthesised understanding of VC activities in a more mature and competitive European start-up ecosystem. Journal: Int. This article categorised the research to date based on a systematic literature review of 30 publications. First, we provide a descriptive overview of previous definitions, methods, and content focus. Second, we introduce the comprehensive framework - the house of sport entrepreneurship - incorporating four levels (conceptual work, sport to entrepreneurship, entrepreneurship to sport and sport entrepreneurship ecosystem) to classify the previous literature. Third, against this background, we highlight relevant research directions. Our study contributes to the literature on the interface of sport and entrepreneurship by advancing the understanding of sport entrepreneurship and laying a theoretical basis for future research. Investigating the demand behaviour of founders and their access to venture capital Abstract: Previous research has shown that venture capital is often not distributed equally among people of different genders. In addition to the supply side, however, the demand behaviour of founders must also be questioned. This study was conducted to investigate gender-specific demand behaviour related to venture capital distribution in the start-up seed phase and to examine the success rate of venture capital requests. The research is based on a quantitative survey of founders in Germany. Our results suggest that female founders approach even more venture capitalists than their male counterparts. It could not be proven that the success rate of venture capital requests depends on gender. Rather, entrepreneurial experience and the contact channel are decisive factors. The study results reveal positive developments in the women's venture capital demand behaviour. These results can be used as a basis for further political and economic measures to improve the ecosystem for female entrepreneurs. Journal: Int. Access to financing is a priority issue for the development of immigrant businesses. The novelty of this work is to jointly address different competitive factors that can help reduce financial difficulties. A structural equation model (SEM) was developed using the partial least squares regression method (PLS) with a sample of 166 Mexican immigrant entrepreneurs whose companies operate in the city of Tucson, Arizona, in the USA. The results highlight the importance of human and social capital and the management capacity to access financial resources. In addition, it was observed that management capacity has a mediating effect between human capital and social capital, helping to minimise the financial difficulties of entrepreneurs. These results have important management and public policy implications for the growth and financial performance of immigrant companies. Journal: Int. Methodologically, the study has two phases: the first was to apply topic modelling by year of publication; the second was to apply grounded theory coding to interpret the topics generated. The results are shown in a research framework with four components: studies trying to better understand COVID-19 crisis impact on business and entrepreneurship; studies showing the entrepreneur's needs to learn how to respond to the pandemic, where characteristics like be innovative, creative, risk taker and proactive are crucial; studies introducing public policies which can help economy's reactivation; and studies focusing on sustainability in the new normal. Finally, the study highlights some interesting avenues for further research where the impact can be more relevant. Journal: Int. However, it must be oriented to a value approach beyond the economic outlook and from an alternative angle to the value creation processes. To this end, the study investigates the value outcomes of incubation, first by applying the laddering technique as a decision process-tracing method to observe the value outcomes of incubators in terms of sustainability dimensions; second by developing a framework - considering strategic target users, innovation objects and sustainability dimensions - applied to incubatees to reveal how they perceive their value outcomes according to those framework elements. The findings show a significant asymmetry of managerial views between incubators and incubatees. For incubators, value outcomes of an economic nature still prevail over other dimensions, whilst incubated companies reveal more concern in positively impacting further sustainability dimensions with their innovation offering. Anchored in the social exchange theory, the research explores the intricate dynamics between SR-HRM practices, EEB, and knowledge hiding tendencies among employees. The choice of the manufacturing sector stems from the sector's reliance on skilled labour and the consequential impact on performance and innovation. A sample of 384 employees participated, with data collected through adapted questionnaires administered both in person and online. The findings indicate that SR-HRM significantly predicts EEB while negatively influencing knowledge hiding. Moreover, knowledge hiding mediates the relationship between SR-HRM and EEB. The study also identifies knowledge-oriented leadership as a crucial moderator in these dynamics. In practical terms, these insights guide HR managers and industrial psychologists in recruitment, selection, and intervention strategies to foster social exchange theory and mitigate knowledge hiding's adverse effects in the manufacturing sector. However, little is known about the effect of entrepreneurial networking on the opportunity recognition of young entrepreneurs. Using a moderated mediation model of proactiveness and entrepreneurial self-efficacy, the study examined the effect of entrepreneurial networking on the opportunity recognition of young entrepreneurs. As such, social network and social cognitive theories guided this study, employing a quantitative research design. The study found that entrepreneurial networking has a positive effect on the opportunity recognition of young entrepreneurs. It found that proactiveness has both a significant negative interaction effect and is the contingent factor for the indirect effect of entrepreneurial self-efficacy on entrepreneurial networking and opportunity recognition of young entrepreneurs. The findings have theoretical and managerial implications; entrepreneurial networking impacts opportunity recognition and increases the ability of young entrepreneurs to access more entrepreneurial opportunities. It mainly focuses on the interaction between meaningful work (MW) and entrepreneurial passion (EP), examined through behavioural reasoning theory. Using a quantitative methodology, data from a survey of 322 entrepreneurs were analysed with confirmatory factor analysis, exploring the connection between MW and EP and their subconstructs. The results show a significant interrelation between MW and EP, both broadly and in more detailed subconstruct levels. This research contributes to understanding how these factors synergistically influence entrepreneurial behaviour. The study suggests that MW and EP's interconnectedness allows them to potentially act as proxies for each other, offering new perspectives for future entrepreneurial research. This novel understanding may enhance entrepreneurial success by reinterpreting existing research within this context. Journal: Int. An unbalanced fixed-effects panel data model is used to analyse the relationship between sustainable strategy variables in 48 countries between 2015 and 2021 with the permanence of EBO. The results reveal that innovation indicators have no significant relationship with EBO permanence, while aligning with sustainable development goals, entrepreneurial behaviour and attitudes and entrepreneurial framework conditions has a positive effect on EBO permanence. These results expand the understanding of the role of sustainable strategy in the permanence of EBO and offer valuable information for policy makers, entrepreneurs and academics interested in fostering the long-term sustainability of sustainable entrepreneurship. A total of 385 were used as test objects from findings in the field by grouping 65 samples. It can be concluded that the findings are that intellectual and structural capital is an important factor in creating company performance and providing value creation for the company; this is a good issue for investors. Since investors recognised the importance of skilled human resources capable of successfully managing the business and establishing positive relationships with external parties, financial performance has not been shown to mediate the effect of intellectual capital on creating firm value. Simultaneously, capital from the structure impacts the company and company value directly and through the mediation of the company's financial performance. The important issue of structural capital is the level of security of trading capital, which is important for prospective investors. Journal: Int. Notwithstanding, there has been little research into these strategic choices' immediate and long-term effects. This study addresses this gap by analysing data from the European Innovation Scoreboard between 2011 and 2019. We investigate whether a firm's decision to pursue internal or open innovation significantly impacts its technological and non-technological innovation outcomes over varying timeframes. Additionally, we examine the contingent influence of a research system on firms' decisions regarding innovation collaboration. Our findings reveal that internal and open innovation strategies have distinct effects on small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) across different periods, particularly with a two-year time lag. Further, a robust research system can impede cooperative efforts to achieve technological and non-technological innovation objectives. The study concludes with practical policy recommendations, empowering businesses with clear guidance for navigating innovation strategies in current business environments. Journal: Int. Pandemic and its effect on entrepreneurial well-being and post-COVID-19 functioning Abstract: The present study proposes a theoretical framework to explain the resource constraints induced by the pandemic on entrepreneurs. This theoretical study has also advanced the role of the type of entrepreneur in dealing with such stressors of a pandemic using the Lerman et al. (2020) stress event theory (SET). This study is theoretical. It proposes a conceptual framework for the relationships between COVID-19-induced resource constraints and the entrepreneurial post-COVID-19 functioning with the underlying mechanism of entrepreneurial well-being. Following SET, this conceptual paper proposes that opportunity entrepreneurs would be able to cope with stressful events, which make the difference in his or her well-being, social relationships, and functioning compared to the necessity entrepreneur. However, the type of entrepreneur makes a difference in affected well-being and functioning. The authors have presented a theoretical model incorporating the predictors and outcomes of entrepreneurial well-being in times of the COVID-19 pandemic to suggest future research directions. However, pressing grand sustainability challenges question this notion of productivity and the types and recipients of the value entrepreneurs should create. In this conceptual article, we argue that entrepreneurship policy should be re-oriented toward a public value framework that better reflects societal goals. This article argues that public value is created when the public (i.e., everyone in society or the majority of actors that constitute it) perceives a specific shared need to be met by an entrepreneurial solution. Based on a distinction between micro-level private and macro-level public value creation, this article proposes four pathways that explain how entrepreneurs can address the needs of the public. These public value creation processes help policymakers with designing entrepreneurship policies that address grand sustainability challenges. Furthermore, sustainable entrepreneurs may orient their solutions to societal challenges according to a public value creation perspective. Journal: Int.
